A person has been arrested on suspicion of assault after Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp was apparently attacked when Nottingham Forest followers spilled on to the pitch on the finish of the Sky Guess Championship play-off semi-final.
Nottinghamshire Police’s chief inspector Paul Hennessy stated: “A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in reference to this incident. He stays in custody and will probably be questioned by officers.
“Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing. We’ve got spoken to the participant involved and we’re working with each golf equipment who’re supporting us with our investigation.”
The Blades captain was sidelined for the second leg due to harm and was stood on the touchline after Forest secured a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout victory following a 3-3 mixture draw, which precipitated a pitch invasion on the Metropolis Floor.
Footage shared on social media seems to indicate one supporter working on the 36-year-old former Forest striker and knocking him to the bottom.
Forest have condemned the incident and stated in a press release they are going to “will work with the authorities to find the person” and the offender will probably be topic to “a life ban” from the membership.
